Recharged?

Mon Aug 1, 2005 Miss Vicky

Well, everyone, I just spend a weekend at my phone-and-internet-less cottage, in blissful ignorance of local, national and world events.

I feel a bit better now. I'm sure the creative juices and snappy commentary will be flowing before you know it.

Don't forget: as of this week you can recycle your yoghurt and margarine containers again! Yippee!

Welcome back.

My 'container cupboard' all of a sudden has room again . . . happy to be able to recycle those containers once more. Just in time for packing.

Speaking of which, Just to let people know, Miss Vicky will be away to said cottage for most of the month of August. She's back this week but will be away starting Friday afternoon right until the end of the month or so. She may tawdle up to the Perry Sound internet cafe from time to time, but she will be most likely incommunicado, blog-wise, till September.

Fear not though, dear readers. We will have some "guest posters" appearing to fill the void. Including, possibly, Miss Vicky's Mom.

More on this as details become clearer.

Well, if Miss Vicky's Mom (who I haven't seen in about 20 years) is going to guest blog, I'm going to get my Mom to fill in for me while I'm on vacation...8^)

Miss Vicky Aug 2, 2005 12:42 PM said:

Ha. Now there's something I'd like to see....

other volunteer guest bloggers are welcome, by the way!

The Webgeek Aug 2, 2005 12:55 PM said:

hmmm....

how about nominations for guest bloggers?

oh, wait...

That might get us accussed of non-democratic leanings if we don't honour all nomination sugestions....

nevermind.

Miss Vicky Aug 2, 2005 01:55 PM said:

Miss Vicky's has never pretended to be a democracy. Ask any alumni of the Finishing School.

Anyway, Miss Vicky will give all nominations the consideration they deserve.

Hugh Aug 2, 2005 03:22 PM said:

I would nominate Jason, the Moslem.

Miss Vicky Aug 2, 2005 03:36 PM said:

Jason is registered under the name "Jason", Hugh. Not "Jason, the Moslem". It's offensive to label people that way. Kim Cambell, for example, was Prime Minister, not "Chick in Charge". We don't refer to our Governor General as "the Asian". I call my physician Dr W., not "my lady doctor".

The Webgeek Aug 2, 2005 03:36 PM said:

How about just calling him Jason., since that's the name he chose to use here.

The Webgeek Aug 2, 2005 03:37 PM said:

You owe me a coke.

Miss Vicky Aug 2, 2005 03:38 PM said:

Hm, we are channelling each other again, Webgeek.

The Webgeek Aug 2, 2005 03:41 PM said:

Dunno...

Do you want to buy a "Pac Man" cocktail arcade cabinet for the living room too?

Miss Vicky Aug 2, 2005 03:45 PM said:

then again.... maybe not

The Webgeek Aug 2, 2005 03:53 PM said:

nuts.

Jason Aug 2, 2005 05:39 PM said:

Wow, a following of one... Drop your nets and follow me, indeed.

I'm sure Hugh was only speaking in jest. I'd have nothing of value to say.

On a totally unrelated note, may I kindly recommend licorice root tea to any fellow tea enthusiasts. It makes the whole experience of reading blogs so much more enjoyable.

Hugh Aug 2, 2005 09:33 PM said:

No, Jason, not in jest. Quite sincerely. I found your entries quiet erudite and well pointed. I only referred to you as Jason the Moslem for there is always the possibility another viewer is also a Jason. It's not the most uncommon name in my experience. I hadn't thought of it as insulting or in the terms of Miss Vicky or Webgeek.

And I expect you'd have more to offer than you let on. But liquorice tea sounds interesting. Perhaps some Pernod or Absinthe. I'm not entirely against alcohol - just a lot of caution.

BTW: I tried to find a way to add my full name to the login but failed, though it is in my profile. It is: Edward Hugh Petrie - I don't like hiding behind a psuedonym or limited name as a rule.

Miss Vicky Aug 2, 2005 10:52 PM said:

Jason, I'm more of a green tea with mint gal, myself. But I'll try anything once. Or twice.

Does it go well with the brandy I suddenly feel a need to slug?

Jason Aug 2, 2005 11:23 PM said:

"Licorice" root tea, Hugh, not "liquorice". You know, like Twizzlers. It's non-alcoholic. Licorice is found in the root of a plant. It's supposedly 50 times sweeter than sugar and has been known for its medicinal properties for thousands of years (anti-aging, etc.).

Green tea with mint is wonderful, but licorice root tea is just something else. I suppose it could be mixed with brandy, but I've never heard that before.

For slugging, that's where chamomile tea comes in. If you get the fresh (I mean *really* fresh) chamomile tea, where you can actually chew on the flowers, you'll slug ever so peacefully. Just don't chew at work :-)

The Webgeek Aug 2, 2005 11:26 PM said:

I used to (kind of) like chamomile tea, until Miss VIcky pointed out thast chamomile is that scrawny weed with the yellow ball-like flower that grows next to trails and such.

I can't see myself drinking weed tea.

(Please don't spoil any other teas for me just yet.)

Miss Vicky Aug 3, 2005 01:02 PM said:

It's not a weed... it's a "lawn alternative".

Wait until I harvest the echinacea....

The Webgeek Aug 3, 2005 01:43 PM said:

mmmm.....

Lawn clipping tea.

That sounds sooooo much more apealing. ;-)

But hey, that's just my hang up, I guess.
So go nuts. harvest away.

Hm. I particularly like this recipe from that link:

On-Line Stress Buster Tea

You've been sitting at hour computer for how long? This formula combats the effects of computer radiation exposure, eyestrain, nervous tension, and mental fatigue. Take it to work with you - your brain will thank you.

1 part echinacea root
1 part licorice root
1 part dandelion root and leaf
1 part bladder wrack leaf
1 part eyebright leaf
1 part ginko leaf
1 part goto kola leaf
1 part kelp
1 part oatstraw
Honey and lemon (optional)

Decoct the echinacea, licorice, and dandelion roots using the technique described above. Remove from heat and add the remaining herbs. Stir well, cover the pot, and allow to steep another 10 to 20 minutes. Strain; add honey and lemon if desired.

The Webgeek Aug 3, 2005 02:26 PM said:

I swear to god, I thought I saw "1 eye of goat" when I scanned through the recipe.

I guess I *have* been sitting at the computer too long.

Jason Aug 3, 2005 07:15 PM said:

I have a better recipe. It's called getting rid of those cursed cathode-ray tube monitors and buying a nice $1000 LCD monitor :-)

The Webgeek Aug 3, 2005 11:31 PM said:

well, "eye of goat" *is* cheaper than an LCD monitor.

I guess your going for quality over quantity though.

**sips from vat of homemade tea**

To each his own, eh?
