Scooters! In Hintonburg!

Wed Jun 25, 2008 Miss Vicky

So...... the new business moving in next door to Salon M, in the former location of Scissor and Comb: electric scooters!

scooterstore

Miss Vicky has a confession to make. She has harboured a quiet desire for a Vespa since high school. Can't you just see her in a nice little vintage orange number? Maybe with a sidecar for WeeG?

So imagine the torture Miss Vicky is experiencing now that a scooter shop is about to open (July 1, we hear) mere steps away from her front door. Especially now that the finances are....shall we say....tight? It's too bad, too, because a scooter would offer the perfect solution to the "too far to bike, gotta get back to the daycare so can't take the bus" dilemma that leads Miss Vicky to reluctantly take the car to work every day.

Sigh

Well, it's still cool to have a scooter shop in the 'hood, no?

Remember the scooter JB used to have in Winnipeg? Ah, memories of getting a slurpee at the 7-11 for 59 cents, and using the change to fill up the tank...

oh yeah. And Tony K had his as well.

To solve your too-far-to-bike problem, you might consider adding power-assist to your bicycle. Check out

ah but blue grama, even with the power-assist solution, I still have the "moving down to a single income, so no disposable cash" issue!

PS will ask the webgeek to take a look.

Blue Grama, thanks for the lead. That might get us back on the bike for our commute instead of running for the red and white limo!

Oh the scooters! I remember the "cool" chick maiden at school who had a powder blue one with a Great Gazoo-type helmet.

If you find out that they do have the side-car edition, please post about it. I think The Huz would seriously consider it.

Dh uses an "electric" bike for his daily commute now and really enjoys it. He bought his second hand for a good price. :)

I have walked by that scooter in the front window and must admit, that I'd love to have one. Being that we'll be moving to the hood soon, I think I may have to get one for those too far but don't need the car errands. :)
Isn't there some organisation in Ottawa that has a share a car program? Maybe the hood could be the first to have a few communal scooters for those who don't need them daily but could use them once in a while....

Yes, that would be Vrtucar. They have several parking spots in the 'hood (Fairmont and Gladstone has 2 cars I think, and there are a few over by the Market). Scooter-sharing, though... now there's an idea!

I think they only sell Daymak ... best call around to some of the motorcycle shops to get some opinions on that brand. One shop out near St Laurent who sells them but recommend against them unless price is your only concern told me there is no warranty on these bikes, and that some of them break down days after driving off the lot. That having been said, for the price I'd still be tempted because they are almost half the next cheapest.
