Light up Hintonburg!

Tue Nov 15, 2005 Miss Vicky

Hintonburg Holiday Hotspots
I know you're out there.... as soon as the last trick-or-treater departs from your doorstep, your mind turns to the next holiday decorating challenge. The lure of tinsel, garlands, wreaths and flashing lights is high. The waving lawn Santa.... the blowup Grinch.... the reindeer on the roof. You know who you are. You line up at Canadian Tire each year for the latest trend in lighting to add to your repertoire. You struggle with those key decisions: uniform light colour or assortment? Is piped-in music too much? Should the candy canes dance this year?

Utility bills bedamned.... folks sure like to decorate for the holidays. So this year the Hintonburg Community Association is sponsoring its first-ever festive lighting competition. Awards will be given to the best outdoor display in the following categories:

best domestic
best commercial or institutional
best residential block
most creative or innovative

You can enter by filling out the form here. Deadline for entries is November 30.

Winners will be announced by mid-December. I'm looking forward to checking out the entries!

In other Hintonburg Holiday news, the annual Craft fair is November 26. There are still spots for crafters available. See the HCA website for details.

first-every festive???

and where might this HCA website be? Or am I supposed to have it book-marked already?

Now now, Webgeek, when you make errors I have been quietly editing them and letting you know without exposing you to the embarassment that goes along with an incapacity to, say, use an apostrophe.

The HCA website is linked at the top of the post.

Nice way to treat someone home sick. You better bring home some chicken soup, buster.

If Hintonburg extends to Champlain Park, they could just send the prize to my neighbour Buck across the street....

I was actually thinking that, Flanders.

It must be tough sleeping across from that, what with the light polution and the constant, whirring sound coming from his hydro meter counters spinning uncontrollably.

BTW, I think the inflatable Grinch person should get a lifetime acheivement award. They put that sucker out every year. (It's visible from the 417if you use the parkdale onramp.)

lifetime achievement award should go to the guy with the 'reflector van' at the end of my street!

I love that guy's van! Am hoping his holiday display is just as.... original.

Well, our neighbour is out as I type, checking the connections on his roof-top nativity scene and trees. The lawn reindeer came out earlier today...To be honest, I don't mind it at all - the kids love the display and he's such a great neighbour that I can happily tolerate all his hydro-consuming eccentricities...

We got some lights up today. Nothing fancy - some multicoloured LEDs around the front window and this cool red light rope wound around the railing on the front steps. Looks kinda odd. but I like it. Might add some garland to embellish the light rope.... we'll see how it goes.

Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video to make your point. You obviously know what youre talking about, why waste your intelligence on just posting videos to your blog when you could be giving us something enlightening to read?
